Why We Believe Social Distancing Is So Important

The best way that we can help stop COVID-19 from spreading is staying at home and being socially distant. But what exactly does it mean and how does it help?

"Social distancing, also called “physical distancing,” means keeping space between yourself and other people outside of your home." defined by the CDC. The three guidelines for doing this are:

  1. Stay 6 feet apart or more from other people
  2. Avoid group gatherings (and yes, we know you miss your BFFs but there's facetime and zoom for now!)
  3. Stay away from crowded places and avoid mass gatherings

While our younger #CristalinaBabes may be statistically less likely to contract COVID-19, that doesn't mean we shouldn't look out for older and more vulnerable people (i.e. those with immunodeficiencies). We can prevent more people from contracting the virus by staying at home (which is pretty easy if you put things into perspective). It's also super important to limit close contact with others outside your house, both in indoor and outdoor spaces. Since people can spread the virus before they know they are sick, it is important to stay away from others when possible, even if you—or they—have no symptoms (some people never even show symptoms even though they're sick!).

A term you've probably heard quite a lot is 'Flattening the curve'. It means that we need to slow down the spread of the virus as much as we can. The slower it spreads = the fewer people are sick at the same time. Let's face it: our hospitals are not equipped to deal with a pandemic that spread like wildfire, and the world was definitely not prepared for this. If many people are sick at once, this could easily overwhelm our hospital system, and we would not have enough beds for all the patients that need care. That would mean that so many would not have access to the care they need.

So, we're doing our part by staying at home, flattening the curve, and practicing social distancing. In fact, we've become experts at social distancing, which is why we created this t-shirt for our Unedited XYZ x Cristalina Collection:

The meaning behind our social distancing expert tee: we've become experts and are physically away from each other. But somehow, we're virtually more connected than ever.

In response to the global pandemic caused by COVID-19, Unedited XYZ have joined the "upcycle foundation" on their commitment to using a portion of donated resources to help our community. Earlier this year the upcycle foundation received a donation of more than 7,000 new 100% heavy cotton t-shirts that were incorrectly printed for a Florida school. In response to the CDC call out to make house-made masks and help in the global shortage, they decided to make them out of the donated t-shirts and unedited decided to join them with your help.

When buying a Social Distancing Expert t-shirt, Unedited XYZ is donating 1 mask on your name to this humanitarian+sustainable+upcycle+incredible initiative. The T-shirt is flowy & forward enough to wear it everywhere. Rolled cuffs add an element of style, and a high-low, raw-edge hem gives it need-now appeal.

Please keep in mind that the upcycle mask cannot be used with COVID-19 patients. They are designed to substitute or be an addition to surgical masks used to treat non-COVID patients. The goal is to help free up the use of CDC compliant medical masks to treat patients with COVID-19 symptoms.

We believe that we'll come through and that in the end, everything will be ok. In the meantime, we're doing our part in raising awareness and continuing to practice social distancing-while trying to help all of you find fun ways to do it too! That's why we've been making some awesome try-on videos on Instagram and TikTok, coming up with some new collections, and having some really great sales. We're sharing some great workouts (in our bikini tops and new activewear) and healthy snacks, too. We hope we're helping you make the most out of your social distancing!
